Over the past few years, a new menace has made its presence known in the midwestern states. The Bark Beetle has started to kill trees in vast numbers.
The beetle lay eggs in the phloem of the tree. Once the beetle eggs hatch, they begin damaging the trees as they feed. They also give off a chemical which is an invitation to other beetles to join in on the feast. These pests can kills trees in a very short period of time or damage trees in such as way that they will never recover.
